JILLIAN BERENDES

I first started running at 29 years old. Believe it or not, I don't recall ever running more than a mile even in my middle school and high school years.  At 29, I decide to pick up running but felt I couldn't run straight through. That's when I did some research and found an Interval running (run/walk) group.

With the support of the running group I ran my first 5K New Years Day, 1/1 intervals (run 1 minute/walk 1 minute).  I finished in 33 minutes.  Fast forward to the following spring.   I trained again with a group for a half marathon - I was addicted!  I ran the Iron Girl Columbia 1/2 Marathon, 1:5/1 intervals (run 1.5 minutes/walk 1 minute) in 2 hours, 17 minutes.

I have been on a roll since then. I have run more than twenty races - half marathons, a Ragnar Relay, several 5Ks, 10Ks, 15Ks, and a full marathon.

During my time with Team Persevere,  I've assisted Coach Jack with 5K training as well as the longer distances and had the honor to complete the Level 1 USATF Coaching Certification.

I enjoy motivating others to complete their running goals and hope to inspire others find the love for running.
